Getting Here
Three Ways to Arrive at Isla Aguada — All of Them Extraordinary
The journey to Isla Aguada is not merely a transfer — it is the first chapter of your adventure. Whether you arrive by air, by the legendary Mayan Train, or by car along one of Mexico's most spectacular coastal highways, the scenery begins long before you reach your tent.
Ciudad del Carmen
International Airport
Fly into Ciudad del Carmen International Airport (CME) — the closest gateway to Isla Aguada, with direct connections from Mexico City and other major Mexican hubs. Upon landing, your Isla Aguada Glamping Co. shuttle will be waiting for you — complimentary, comfortable, and ready to begin the experience.
The transfer from the airport follows the Gulf Coast road — a breathtaking drive where the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico stretch endlessly to one side and the wild Campeche jungle rises on the other. There are no billboards, no urban sprawl, no traffic — just open sky, open sea, and the growing sense that you are arriving somewhere truly special.
Nothing but turquoise water and the first warm breeze of what will be an unforgettable stay.

"Arriving by Mayan Train is something between a journey and a ceremony — the jungle rolls past the windows, ancient and unchanged, all the way to Escárcega."
The Tren Maya —
Escárcega Station
Mexico's extraordinary Tren Maya — the Mayan Train — is one of the great rail journeys of the Americas: a modern, air-conditioned service that winds through thousands of kilometres of Yucatan jungle, past ancient Maya ruins, colonial towns, and pristine natural landscapes, connecting Cancún, Mérida, Palenque and the entire peninsula in style and comfort.
Disembark at Escárcega Station — just 20 minutes from Isla Aguada — where your complimentary resort shuttle will be waiting. The short drive from the station passes through the heart of the Campeche countryside, arriving at the resort in time for your first jungle cocktail at sunset.
The Mayan Train journey itself is an experience — a slow, scenic passage through one of the world's last great jungle frontiers, where the train carves through dense canopy and occasionally reveals the silhouette of a pyramid just visible above the treeline.
Federal Highway 180 —
The Gulf Coast Drive
For those who choose to drive, Federal Highway 180 offers one of Mexico's most spectacular and least-known coastal road journeys. This is not a motorway — it is a ribbon of smooth, modern tarmac that hugs the edge of the Gulf of Mexico through some of the most untouched natural landscape in all of Mexico.
The highway is newly resurfaced and exceptionally smooth — as smooth as butter, as locals say. You will drive for stretches of many kilometres without passing another vehicle, without seeing a single advertisement, without encountering any trace of the commercial world. Just nature: on one side, the Gulf stretching to the horizon; on the other, dense tropical jungle pressing to the roadside.
Occasionally a pelican crosses overhead. A heron stands still in a roadside lagoon. A family of coatis crosses the road at their own unhurried pace. This is Mexico as it once was — and as it still is, here on the Campeche coast.
The Drive — What to Expect
- New, perfectly smooth highway surface
- Turquoise Gulf of Mexico views throughout
- Zero commercial development or billboards
- Wildlife crossings — coatis, herons, pelicans
- Coastal lagoons and mangrove channels roadside
- Light traffic — often the road is entirely yours
- Resort parking available on site
"New highways as smooth as butter — nothing but nature all around. The Gulf on one side, the jungle on the other. You arrive at the resort already in a different state of mind."
